These tools use our actual posted labor rates, $210 per hour for body and paint and $260 for mechanical and electrical, plus real materials and tax. They give you a defensible range before you speak to anyone, including us.
How to estimate a job yourself
The arithmetic is not difficult once you know the rate, which is exactly why most shops do not publish theirs. Labor hours multiplied by the department rate, plus materials, plus parts with markup, plus tax on the parts and materials only.
Materials are predictable: paint supplies bill at $55 per paint hour and body supplies at $5 per body hour, both auto calculated. Parts carry 100 percent markup at or below $100 and 35 percent above it. Sales tax of 7.75 percent applies to parts and materials, never to labor.
Find the job in the catalog. The prices page lists real ranges with shop hours for every common repair by vehicle type.
Take the hours, not the dollars. Hours are the honest unit. Multiply by $210 for body and paint or $260 for mechanical and electrical.
Add materials. Paint hours times $55, body hours times $5, plus $45 hazmat if chemicals, refrigerant, or LP are involved.
Add parts with markup. Double anything at or below $100, add 35 percent above it.
Add 7.75 percent tax. On parts and materials only. Labor is not taxed in California.
What a calculator cannot tell you
It cannot tell you where inside a range your job falls, because that is determined at teardown. On an RV the visible damage is consistently smaller than the actual damage, and no formula fixes that.
